Descript's free plan covers 2 vlogs a month at 30 minutes of raw footage each; its $24-a-month Creator plan is the first that covers a daily vlog. Six editors, read on the makers' own pages on 26 October 2026.
Lattice finding
Descript's free plan allows 60 media minutes a month, which at 30 minutes of raw footage per vlog covers 2 vlogs; Hobbyist's 600 minutes covers 20, and Creator's 1,800 minutes covers 60, the first plan that covers a daily vlog.
By where you shoot and how often you post:
This guide is about workflow. If you are choosing by Mac model or total cost of ownership, our MacBook editing guide prices each editor over 12, 24 and 36 months; the full YouTube editor ranking covers every channel type; and our phone editing app guide goes deeper on the phone side.
Lists a mobile editor, a desktop editor and an online suite. Its desktop page lists auto captions and video stabilization; Pro is shown at USD 19.99 a month or USD 179.99 a year.
Edit by editing the transcript. Free allows 60 media minutes a month; Hobbyist 600 and Creator 1,800, which at 30 minutes of raw footage a vlog is 20 and 60 vlogs a month.
Wondershare lists mobile apps on the App Store and Google Play and a desktop editor for Mac and Windows; one Basic or Advanced licence covers both Mac and PC. The paid plan cards list Export Without Watermark and 4K export.
Luma Touch lists iOS phones, iPads, Apple Silicon Macs, Android and Chromebooks. Its App Store page lists a Lock & Load video stabilizer; a Creator Pass subscription adds a Storyblocks library.
A free version on Mac, Windows and Linux; the page lists a Cut page for fast turnarounds, proxy editing and subtitles and closed captioning tools. Studio is shown at Was $295 Now $236.
Lists automatic captions from spoken audio and SmoothCam stabilization. Also in Apple Creator Studio at $12.99 a month or $129 a year; iPad is covered through Creator Studio, iPhone through the separate Final Cut Camera capture app.
A vlog is many short clips of the same person, often shot on a phone, so the features that matter are the ones that cut fast and clean up handheld footage: captions generated from speech, a stabilizer for shaky clips, and an editor that opens on the device the footage is on. Final Cut Pro's page lists automatic captions from spoken audio and SmoothCam; CapCut's desktop page lists auto captions and video stabilization; LumaFusion's App Store page lists a Lock & Load stabilizer.
The export end is the same as any YouTube video. YouTube's recommended upload settings are an MP4 container, H.264 video, AAC-LC audio at 48 kHz, and the same frame rate you recorded; the full list is on YouTube Help, recommended upload encoding settings. Our Shorts gear guide and beginner camera guide cover the shooting side.
CapCut is the only one of the six whose own pages list a phone app, a desktop app and a browser version; Filmora and LumaFusion list phone and desktop; Descript and DaVinci Resolve list desktop only on the pages we read. Five of the six list a captions tool on their own pages; LumaFusion's App Store page does not.
Final Cut Pro sits differently: Apple's page covers Mac and iPad, and shows an iPhone running Final Cut Camera, a separate capture app, rather than a phone editor. Adobe Premiere is the other editor vloggers ask about; Adobe's pricing page returned an error to our fetcher on 26 October 2026, so we have not priced or described it and do not rank it.
Edit on the phone when the footage is already there and the vlog is a daily or weekly cut with captions; edit on a laptop when you want the biggest screen for audio and colour work or you are combining footage from several cameras. The ladder turns that into a pick; it ends in a named editor and a price, not "it depends".
BEFORE YOU EDIT [ ] Footage on the editing device (phone for phone-first, laptop otherwise) [ ] Rough cut first: drop the dead air and the repeated takes [ ] Stabilize only the shaky clips (CapCut, Final Cut Pro and LumaFusion list stabilizers) [ ] Generate captions, then read every line once (Descript, CapCut, Filmora, Final Cut Pro list auto captions) [ ] Check audio loudness on phone speakers EXPORT (YouTube's recommended upload encoding, read 26 Oct 2026) [ ] Container MP4, video codec H.264, audio codec AAC-LC, 48 kHz [ ] Upload at the frame rate you recorded (24, 25, 30, 48, 50 or 60 fps) [ ] Deinterlace interlaced footage before upload
Free plans differ in what they cap. Descript caps media minutes (60 a month on Free, 600 on Hobbyist, 1,800 on Creator, 2,400 on Business), CapCut's Free plan lists free templates and basic editing tools, DaVinci Resolve is a free version of the full editor, and Final Cut Pro offers a 30-day free trial through Apple Creator Studio. LumaFusion is a paid app at $29.99 on the App Store.
| Descript plan | Price shown | Media minutes a month | Vlogs at 30 min raw |
|---|---|---|---|
| Descript Free | $0 | 60 | 2 |
| Descript Hobbyist | $16 a month billed annually ($24 monthly) | 600 | 20 |
| Descript Creator | $24 a month billed annually ($35 monthly) | 1,800 | 60 |
| Descript Business | $50 a month billed annually ($65 monthly) | 2,400 | 80 |
Descript pricing page, read 26 October 2026; the vlogs column is computed (minutes divided by 30, rounded down). Hobbyist lists 1080p watermark-free export and Creator lists 4K.
Filmora's plan cards list "Export Without Watermark" and 4K export on its paid plans, which is the cap that matters for a free trial of the desktop app. CapCut says its displayed pricing "is for reference only" and that final pricing shows after sign-in, so confirm the plan inside the app.
We compared six editors on the platforms, plans, caption and stabilization features and free-plan limits each maker lists on its own pages (capcut.com, descript.com, apple.com, blackmagicdesign.com, filmora.wondershare.com, luma-touch.com and the App Store), read on 26 October 2026, and on YouTube Help's recommended upload settings. The vlogs-per-plan finding is computed from Descript's published media minutes and a stated 30-minute raw-footage assumption. We did not edit vlogs in these apps, so nothing here is a speed or quality claim, and a feature we did not find on a page is shown as not found, not as absent. Adobe Premiere is omitted because its US pricing page could not be read.

For phone-first vloggers, CapCut (free plan, mobile editor with auto captions listed) or LumaFusion ($29.99); for daily vloggers on a laptop, Descript Creator ($24 a month billed annually) covers 60 vlogs a month at 30 minutes of raw footage each; for no budget, DaVinci Resolve Free. All per the makers' own pages on 26 October 2026.
Edit on the phone when the footage is already there and you post often with captions; edit on a laptop when you want a bigger screen for audio and colour or you combine footage from several cameras. CapCut and Filmora list both phone and desktop editors.
On the makers' own pages, CapCut lists auto captions, Final Cut Pro lists automatic captions from spoken audio, Filmora lists Auto Caption, Descript lists one-click and dynamic captions, and DaVinci Resolve lists subtitles and closed-captioning tools. LumaFusion's App Store page does not list a captions tool.
DaVinci Resolve offers a free version of its full editor, and CapCut has a free plan with basic editing tools. Check export limits inside the app: Filmora's paid plan cards list Export Without Watermark, and Descript lists 1080p watermark-free export from its Hobbyist plan.
At 30 minutes of raw footage per vlog, Descript Free (60 media minutes a month) covers 2, Hobbyist (600) covers 20, Creator (1,800) covers 60 and Business (2,400) covers 80. Replace 30 with your own raw-to-final ratio.
YouTube Help recommends an MP4 container, H.264 video, AAC-LC audio at 48 kHz, progressive scan, and uploading at the frame rate you recorded (24, 25, 30, 48, 50 or 60 fps).
Choose the editor where your footage already lives, then check what its free plan caps. For phone-first vlogs start with CapCut or LumaFusion, for daily laptop vlogs Descript Creator is the first plan whose allowance covers one a day, and for $0 DaVinci Resolve Free is the full editor. Confirm the final price inside the app, because several of these pages say their displayed prices are for reference.
